　　Reason 1: Students do need different skills now that they’re in university; things are different from when they were in high school, like the man didn’t have a clue when he wrote his first research paper

　　Reason 2: Small class is better because students get to interact with the professors, they can ask questions and share ideas, when he took big classes, all he could do was sitting there and listening

It’s quite easy to clean up, the garbage is not a big deal.2. Hot dogs and juice offered by the food cart is what keeps her concentrated on the classes, she doesn’t have to starve.

　　1、research envy 它的意思是：人们一般做出选择会受到别人的影响。

　　教授举了两个例子：有两组跑步运动员athletes：给第一组athletes每天都吃energy bar，不给第二组athletes吃energy bar。研究两组athletes的跑步速度是否会提高。如果第一组athletes中的一人是第二组athletes中的一人的朋友，第二组athletes就会知道第一组athletes每天吃补药，而自己所在的这一组没有给吃energy bar，但是他们不想就这么输掉，每天都很努力的练习。结果as a result，两组athletes的速度都变快了run faster。这个实验就分不清这个energy bar是否有效。

　　2、是emotional intelligence。就讲recognize自己的情绪，然后知道是怎么cause的。听力的例子就是他女儿和friend回来看电影，两个人有争执。Daughter就很upset，然后她分析原因其实不是因为看电影的事儿upset，其实是因为她忧虑她的新工作。就和friend道歉，她的friend还安慰了她。

　　3、讲social referencing， 定义是婴儿对外界的做出反应并理解。听力讲了两个实验，母亲拿着玩具坐在小孩前面，6个月的大的婴儿根本不会在意母亲是不是在微笑，都继续去玩，而1岁大的孩子则会看到母亲微笑才去玩，而看到母亲不高兴就会回避去玩。

　　SPEAKING 5

　　1、学生的课时跟写作有时间冲突，所以他去找了advisor，方法一是从每周写一次变成两周写一次，但是男生说自己又很多Reader 不想让他们失望;方法二是只上基础课不上advanced course，但是男生说他喜欢被challenge。

　　2、男生的物理课学不好，跟不上进度。

　　1)找个专业的家教professional tutor。但男生说找professional tutor贵，他必须打更多的工才能把辅导费挣出来。2)请室友roommate(是一物理专业学生)给他辅导。男生说虽然很便宜，但他室友非常忙(好象参加了个basketball team而且室友是一个double major(同时主修两个专业的学生))。等每天室友忙完自己的工作是已经是深夜了

　　3、即将放家，女生的室友第二天开车回家，但是女生有个论文还没写，她有两个选择，要不熬夜写，但是这样明天就太累了，或者索性留下明天再写，但这要就要自己坐大巴和火车回家，太没意思了

　　SPEAKING 6

　　1、蛋孵出之前的交流： (1)宝宝之间的交流：(鸭子)保证每个蛋同时孵化，所以每个宝宝不会被妈妈left over ，生存的几率大 (2)baby 与妈妈之间的交流：(鳄鱼)保证妈妈把蛋上方的泥土剥掉，使得宝宝容易生存。

　　2、2种公司logo会对其造成不好的影响。1让人们想起不好的东西。比如，如果用黑色来做一个牙膏公司的logo，人们就不会想买。2让人们觉得这个公司落伍。比如一个communication的公司，如果用一个父母或祖父母旧电话做logo，人们就会觉得他跟不上时代。

　　3、讲的是rail road对美国business的影响。第一：可以sell goods all over the country。以钟表商店为例子。第二：在各种地方开工厂。举例以前没有煤的地方不能开场因为会没有电。现在都可以了。
